Beru's had a hard time defining herself. The reason: everyone meets Yuma first. Beru has made sure that everyone knows she's not too much like Yuma by using her own deck, not dueling much (but she's better than Yuma when she doss), and running her own shop.
Original Concept:
The idea was originally someone going to school and saying they were Yuma's twin. Everyone believes her and accepts her, often calling her "Yuma sis." Astral however questions who she is and tries to tell Yuma that he never met Yuka (Beru's original name). The plot was to have Astral expose Yuka as a fake while keeping her from knowing.
This was abandoned on several accounts: Yuka was human, Yuka had no special powers, Astral couldn't lie very well, and the plot didn't want to be written.
Production History:
After the original concept was abandoned, Yuka went trough a redesign process and was abandoned. Beru was created to replace Yuka and was much kinder than her due to being Yuma's natural twin. The "New Concept" was that Beru was too dependent on Yuma and had to learn to be independent. The new concept was partially abandoned and replaced with the "Arc Concept" which is short stories of Beru's life.
Arc 1:
Beru's introduced and explained. Future twists are also introduced.
Arc 2: A few months after the WDC, everything seems okay to Beru. She knows about Kaito's crush and her boyfriend, "Fishly", loves her. But why is she hiding flowers from Shark? And who're the flowers from?
